Measure the access you need
List the people, pets and equipment that use the opening. Measure the desired clear width and discuss the swing direction, ground clearance and space needed to open the gate.
Look beyond the gate panel
Ask the installer to assess the supporting posts, hinges, latches and alignment. A dragging or sagging gate can require a broader repair than replacing the panel.
Define repair or replacement
Request the proposed work, materials and exclusions in writing. For a powered gate, ask the responsible specialist to explain the safety features, installation requirements and ongoing maintenance; this guide does not specify an automation design.
